“Personality” is derived from the Greek word “Persona” which means the masks used by the actors in relation to their characters. Accordingly, to distinguish one person from another, their own likes and dislikes, opinions, attitudes, behaviours, cognitive and emotional characteristics and the differences in those characteristics, the personality also varies from one person to another. This was previously known as a character disorder.

A personality disorder is simply defined as a weakness, abnormality, or inability of a person’s personality traits. That is, inequality in the personality traits that we consider as someone’s personality and in any aspect of cognition, emotions and behaviour is an inability for a long duration, stable and continuous, inflexible and directly affecting the whole personality of the person. A disorder can be identified as a personality disorder. It is a difficult task that cannot be easily identified.

It can be clearly identified that as the main characteristics of any personality disorder, it also affects a person’s cognitive ability (Cognition), affective (Effective), impulse control (Impulse control), and interpersonal functioning (Interpersonal functioning). To be diagnosed with a personality disorder, at least two of the above-mentioned symptoms must be present for a period of no longer than 2 months.

Like all other mental and physical illnesses, personality disorders can have a profoundly negative impact on a person’s personal, social and professional life, and it has the potential to create very problematic situations for them as well as the lives of the people around them. Because of the weakness of a person’s cognitive abilities caused by a personality disorder,

People with such personality disorders have a higher level of social harm compared to people with other mental illnesses. But a significant factor is that the socialization of people with personality disorders is also high compared to the socialization of people with other mental disorders. Because people with personality disorders have only a weakness of higher mental abilities and a weakness of the characteristics revealed in the personality, they can be seen working with those unusual characteristics to a certain degree in society and based on different socio-cultural ideologies and reasons regardless of their disorder characteristics. We can see and recognize well how they behave freely in society due to turning and the harmful conditions that others get as a result.

According to the information from a number of research studies, it is revealed that most personality disorders begin to develop during a person’s adolescence and early adulthood. It is further said that personality disorders or personality disorders can be diagnosed more acutely than before due to the fact that other personality disorders started in a person’s childhood and those characteristics are hidden over time and later develop again in their adulthood. It should be said that some personality disorders can also arise as an effect of negative experiences a person has in his life. In every personality disorder in the world, even though there are characteristic features of that disorder, people will have to face various difficulties in identifying it, and the reason for this is the kind of disparity they exhibit and the difficulty in identifying those characteristics reflected in them is also great.

Generally, a person with a personality disorder has difficulty in self-identifying their disordered characteristics or personality disorders, and they even fail to acknowledge their personality disorder. The reason for this can be their cognitive weakness.

Also, experts believe that the root of personality disorders is the influence of another mental disorder. For example, the provocative behaviour, impulsive speech style and behaviour pattern shown by people with psychosis called schizophrenia, pointing out invisible reasons, and inappropriate behaviour allows people to develop a personality disorder later on.
